Offers a spectrum of control so complete it even protects against tapeworms.Īctive Ingredients: (Ivermectin 1.55% / praziquantel 7.75%) Paste Combines Ivermectin and Praziquantel to offer the most comprehensive equine parasite control. Zimecterin Gold is the first and only de-wormer approved by the FDA to eliminate 61 species and stages of equine parasites. My own vet wants me to dose the full syringe designated for #1350 lb horse to my #1000 pound critters. We've recently reduced the sale price down an additional 25% off. Kellon and other vets who believe underdosing by clients is what is encouraging parasite resistance to wormers. Although not as critical to know as with Quest, you should give at least as much Ivermectin in a dose to match what your horse weighs, and a click or two more on the syringe would be better so you don't underdose. Zimecterin Gold is the same type and class of drug as Equimax, but it has a different carrier and seems to have more side effects than Equimax. Otherwise, I would use either Equimax( Ivermectin and Prazinquantel) or a month of Strongid Cif you need to worm now for tapes also, or if not, just Ivermectin on a frequent basis. If he/she can assure you of that experience, and your horse is in good weight with no other issues, it should be fine to use. If your horse has EPM, I personally would hesitate to use Quest Plus unless your vet has experience with using it in EPM horses and no issues. You need to know for certain your horse's weight, as underdosing is ineffective, but unlike other wormers, overdosing can cause significant side effects in the horse. You don't want to use it in foals, ill horses, horses who are underweight without fat reserves, or pregnant mares. The only issue with moxidectin is that it doesn't have the big margin of safety as does Ivermectin. Moxidectin kills the same parasites as Ivermectin, and it also kills encysted strongyles. Quest Plus is a combination of Moxidectin and Prazinquantel. Did your vet recommend Quest Plus or Zimecterin Gold? They are different drugs with different actions and precautions. You would need to do a fecal exam before and then a couple weeks after worming to determine if it is effective. It may not be effective in your situation. Safeguard is fenbendazole, which studies have shown parasites have developed wide spread resistance. Kellon has provided research studies in our files that show a month of daily wormer, pyrantel tartrate, will also kill tapeworms. An alternative to prazinquantel is to double dose Strongid paste(pyrantel pamoate) to kill tapeworms, or Dr. Von, The only concern the group has regarding wormers is that in some species, Prazinquantel, which kills tapeworms, has been shown to increase insulin.
